It started the way all great Gen-Z love stories do…with a TikTok ad! Sanya downloaded Dil Mil mid quarantine because she was bored. Nanak matched with her on DAY ONE because… destiny clocked in early. They texted. They FaceTimed. They connected instantly. Family-oriented? Love traveling? Same wavelength? Yeah… it was giving main character energy from the start!
The road to forever wasn’t without its hilarious speed bumps though. In their very first conversation, Nanak tried a classic icebreaker: “What is your go to Taco Bell order?”. Sanya’s response? “I don’t eat Taco Bell” (yes we know it’s criminal!!). It was a shut down that could have ended a lesser relationship, but Nanak pivoted, the conversation continued, and the rest is history.
Coincidentally, they only lived six miles apart which felt like fate. After two to three weeks of constant texting and FaceTiming, they decided it was time for the next step. Their first date was supposed to be just a quick coffee halfway between them (because everything else was shut in 2020 rip) but Nanak showed up holding a yellow rose and Sanya showed up with her sister rofl. Like a full on ‘first date security detail’, sis was posted up nearby making sure this Dil Mil man passed the vibe check. ️But soon, hours flew by without them even noticing.. And all sis wanted was to just go home but Sanya wouldn’t even respond to her texts haha.
Somehow, what began as two bored 20 somethings stuck at home turned into a love story with serious forever potential.
Quarantine lifted, Sanya returned to university and they proved distance was never going to be the plot twist. Fast forward 5 years, a million family functions, and enough vacations to qualify as travel influencers – Nanak whisked Sanya away for their 5th anniversary trip to NYC.
A celebratory toast to their time together turned into a casual stroll, which turned into a stop at the Edge Building… where a ‘random stranger’ offered to take their photo. As you may have guessed, the stranger was actually in on it. Nanak dropped to one knee, the skyline paused, and suddenly 100 floors above New York City, forever felt very real.
After a few more days of celebrating, they flew back home to Chicago still on cloud nine, only to walk into baggage claim at O’Hare and be greeted by loud cheers!! Their families were waiting with open arms, ready to celebrate in person. Now, Nanak & Sanya are deep in wedding planning mode, turning a chance swipe into their biggest chapter yet.
Moral of the story: Don’t be afraid to download that app on a whim. Your ‘fate’ might just be six miles away, even if they have terrible taste in fast food haha.
